About Me

Laurie Baird - Counsellor - Antigonish

I have had the privilege of working in this field for over 20 years, in settings including private practice, EAP, community organizations, post-secondary education, Indigenous communities, and correctional facilities. I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT-24-003) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.

My goal as a counselling therapist is to help individuals identify and improve areas of challenge in their lives, increasing their well-being, enjoyment and sense of connection to themselves and others. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, based on individual needs and preferences. A few of these include: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based practices and Solution-Focused Therapy. I understand that everyone’s experience is unique and is informed by identity, personality, culture and history. I work collaboratively with individuals to explore their strengths, goals, potential strategies and progress in working towards their desired outcomes.

In addition to my professional experience and commitment to life-long learning, I count myself as just another ‘bozo on the bus’ of life, learning through life’s experiences – painful, joyous and mundane. I am a mother, partner, animal lover and (moderate!) outdoor adventurer; I bring experience from these facets, and many more, to my work.
